In just a few weeks, one of the most important festivities from English Speaking Countries will be celebrated. Halloween is on the 31st of October! As we know, festivals are a great way to introduce sociocultural aspects from the English Speaking Countries. In this blog, I would like to share with you some ideas to bring Halloween into your classrooms and to help you to adapt and introduce some activities to the necessities of your students. For this reason, I'm going to try to post a variety of Halloween themed posts during this month.

To start, I would like to share with you some spooky and easy recipes to make with children in class. Although cooking in class could be a little messy, we can have a great time, it can be very motivating for our students and they can learn a lot from different aspects of this activity, such as following instructions, ingredients, kitchen tools...
Recipe 1. Scary Bananas and Little Pumpkins.

In all kind of parties, there are usually lots of sweet and not very many healthy food choices. But, as you can see in this picture, we can provide healthy and scary treats for our kids. We can make some scary ghosts using bananas and chocolate chips. As well, we can turn clementines into pumpkins just peeling them and adding some stems.
Sometimes we would like to carve pumpkins in our classrooms but it is not so easy especially with younger students or crowded classrooms. Drawing scary faces on clementines or oranges with a permanent felt-tip marker is a cheap and safe idea.
Recipe 3. Sweet Spiders.
Source: Unknown.
With some Oreo cookies we can make spiders. We just have to add some black licorice pieces as legs and two colorful button-shaped candies like M&M's or Lacasitos.
Recipe 4. Mummy Pops.
Another idea using Oreo cookies is to put the cookies on the popsicle sticks and to dip them into melted chocolate. Then kids can decorate the cookies like they want using all kind of candies.
Recipe 5. Marshmallow Eyes, Witches and Zombies.

Nowadays, cupcakes are very popular and kids love them. These Owl Cupcakes are very funny and easy to do. First, spread some chocolate cream such as Nocilla or Nutella. Then, untwist some Oreo cookies and place them on the cupcake. Finally, put some brown candy buttons, like M&M's or Lacasitos, to make the eyes and an orange one to make the beak.

Another easy and fun recipe that we can make using cupcakes are Mummy Cupcakes. You just need already baked cupcakes (you can even buy them), melted chocolate or icing to make the bandages and all kinds of candies to decorate them as children prefer.

This recipe is very easy to do and kids will have a good time making it and eating it. You will need some sausages, puff pastry to roll around the sausages, an oven to bake them and finally a little bit of mustard to do the eyes and the mouth or even better, if you use ketchup it will look like blood!
Recipe 10. Halloween Sandwiches.

The last recipe that I would like to share with you are these sandwiches. You will need some sliced bread, chocolate cream like Nutella or Nocilla and a plastic knife. Children will have fun cutting scary shapes out of the bread and eating them. If you prefer you can use other kinds of filling like cheese, ham or jam.
